Fall 2019 Fiber Trip to St. Louis

Fall 2019, the Fiber Department chartered a bus to take part in, Fiber Focus 2019, Innovations in Textiles in St. Louis, MO. We had the opportunity to see Future Tense 2019 - SDA Student Exhibition, Beyond the Surface – St. Louis Artists’ Guild, ADORNMENT: The Body as Maker and Made – COCA, Ann Ray & Lee McQueen: Rendez-Vous  - Barrett Barrera, Stephanie Syjuco: Rogue States – Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Zarina: Atlas of Her World & Susan Philipsz - Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Fidencio Martinez-Perez: Cuttings - Craft Alliance Center for Craft and Design, Fiber Focus 2019, Art St. Louis, Quilt National  - Foundry Art Center, Ai Wei Wei: Bare Life – Mildred Lane Kemper, and Vanessa Viruet: Flagged – George Caleb Bingham Gallery. We were especially excited to see the SDA Student Exhibition that included many of works!

Faviola Calymayor's work featured in the National Collegiate Hand Papermaking Triennial

Fiber Elective student and Painting Major, Faviola Calymayor’s work is featured in the National Collegiate Hand Papermaking Triennial. This exhibition features works in handmade paper made by undergraduate and graduate students across the United States. This year’s exhibition was juried by Tatiana Ginsberg and Buzz Spector and takes place at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA.

The Fiber department visited Jason Pollen’s exhibition, Inside/Out, at the Box Gallery. Students saw a variety of Jason’s work, from Nomads to Descendents, and were able to ask questions about Jason’s dedicated studio practice. Thanks, Jason!
